The most popular linking verbs are from to be such as is, am, are, was, and were. Other linking verbs link the subject to a description not an action. The flowers smelled wonderful. Flowers cannot smell physically smell wonderful because wonderful is an adjective, but a person can smell a flower. Another example would be the food tastes excellent. Food cannot physically taste excellent, but a person can taste the food.

linking verbs are just verbs that connect a subject with a noun or adjective:
Noun + LV + Predicate Noun (PN)/ Predicate Adjective(PA)
How to find them? If you can replace the verb with an equals sign and the sentence still makes sense, it’s most likely linking…not action:
I am happy. I = happy.
Noun + LV + PA
The crowd became angry. Crowd=angry
Noun + LV + PA
Bananas taste gross. Bananas=gross
Noun + LV + PA
I tasted the bananas
Noun + Action Verb + Direct object
I does not equal bananas
plus you could probably find a list of all the linking verbs on google.
have fun
