A great fast-paced ad, promoting the Powerbook used in the Mission Impossible film. A pretty awesome ad, I like it. … Mission Impossible Powerbook Ad Apple Mac

The PowerBook used in Mission Impossible Movie was a PowerBook 550c, which was sold only in Japan. It wasn’t a powerPC notebook but at the time they were filming it was the top of the line model Apple sold. It was different from the 540c in that it had a slightly better processor, a 10.4 inch screen and a slick black case. I am not sure why Apple gave them that and then used the 5300 in this commercial. I owned one and it was a great computer when it ran and a heartache when it wasn’t.

yeah it’s a real ad allright it apple was in a bad place back then and they decided some product placement might boost sales.
Ovecourse it didn’t they brought in Steve Jobs and Next and the rest is history.

it was actually a prototype of the first PowerPC powerbook, the 5300. if you look very closely at the label on the right, it says Powerbook XXXX, which was the designation for it at the time. I believe ID4 used the same prototype in their movie too, as the had an add for it too.
